MEGAN MCKENNA X MUNCHKIN – WEANING WITH LANDON & THE MUST-HAVE WEANING ESSENTIALS

Weaning is one of those “pinch me!” first-year milestones, and every baby’s journey is unique. At Munchkin, we know that having the right products on hand can make the experience smoother, and a whole lot less messy(!) That’s why we’re so thrilled to be teaming up with Megan McKenna and her little boy Landon, as they start their weaning adventure together.

With Megan’s passion for nutritious and fun feeding, and our range of thoughtfully designed weaning products, this collaboration is all about making sure the weaning journey is fun and full of lots of good memories. Let’s dive into their journey and explore the must-have essentials that helped Landon take his first bites…

Signs Landon was ready for weaning, and signs to look out for in your little one

Knowing when to start weaning is a big question and one you have probably wondered about in the first few months of your little one’s life. While many parents choose to begin around six months, some babies, especially babies who experience a lot of reflux, might be ready sooner. In Landon’s case, Megan started weaning him at 4.5 months following advice from their doctor, as he is a reflux baby and early introduction to solids was recommended to help manage his symptoms.

When considering if your baby is ready for weaning, there are a few key signs to look out for. Many babies start showing readiness when they can sit up with minimal support and take an interest in the food around them. Another sign is that they reach for objects on your plate! Good head control and chewing motions are also important indicators that they might be ready to explore solid foods. Every baby is different, so it’s always best to check with your doctor if you’re unsure when to start.

Munchkin’s weaning essentials

At Munchkin, we design our products to make feeding easy-peasy, safe and fun. Here are some of our absolute must-haves that helped Landon and Megan enjoy the weaning process together…

Stay Put™ Suction Bowls & Plates

If you’ve ever watched a baby send a bowl of carefully prepared food flying, you’ll understand why our Stay Put™ Suction Bowls and Plates are a much-loved essential. These dishes stick firmly to highchair trays, keeping mealtime mess to a minimum. Megan put them to the test with Landon’s first taste of broccoli purée and bowl stayed in place – well done Landon!

Miracle® 360° Trainer Cup

Staying hydrated and keeping their fluid intake up is so important once weaning begins, and our Miracle® 360° Trainer Cup makes it easy. Designed to allow babies to sip from any angle without spills, it’s perfect for little hands learning independent drinking skills.

For parents introducing a cup during weaning, having a spill-proof option is soooo handy (and your floors will thank you!) While some babies may be able to hold their own cup early on, others, especially those starting weaning before six months like Landon, might need a little extra time to develop that skill. That’s why a no-spill design is key, ensuring that even if the cup gets tossed onto the floor, not a single drop escapes.

Silicone Fresh Food Feeder

We love this clever little tool for safely introducing fresh fruits and veggies. Simply pop soft foods like banana or watermelon inside, and only tiny, digestible pieces come through, reducing the risk of choking. Megan also discovered another great use – frozen breast milk inside the feeder soothed Landon’s gums while he teethed – what a great idea!

Wean with us – Landon’s first weaning experience

For Landon’s first taste of solids, Megan prepared a broccoli purée blended with expressed breast milk to keep the flavour familiar. His reaction? Pure curiosity, excitement, and eventually…love at first bite.

Of course, mealtime isn’t complete without a little mess, but thanks to our Stay Put™ Bowls, at least the food stayed on the tray. Another must-have for the journey was our White Hot™ Spoons, which change colour if food is too hot – taking the guesswork out of temperature testing and giving Megan peace of mind.

The fun (and mess!) continues with new foods and flavours

Weaning is all about exploring flavours and textures while making mealtime a fun bonding experience. Megan is excited to introduce Landon to a variety of foods, encouraging him to eat alongside his family. With our weaning products by her side – especially our weaning bundle – she’s ready to embrace every (not-so!) messy, mealtime moment.
